About me
Hello! Thank you for stopping by! My name is Diego and I’m a dentist from Chile, who then turned ML researcher for healthcare! I focus on bridging the gap between state-of-the-art AI models, such as Computer Vision and NLP, and the real needs in healthcare. My main research interest is automating the diagnosis of chronic, non-transmissible diseases for better prevention. I’m building an intersectional profile of three equal parts: clinician, machine learning engineer and entrepreneurship.
Experience
Instructing first year master students on R programming for quantitative data analysis.
Working under Dr. Madathil for diagnostic AI research, such as landmarking for end-of-life event predictions, and data collection for multi-center model validation studies.
Advised on the development of AI models for the diagnosis of tumors and cysts in panoramic X-rays.
Worked as editor for the peer-reviewed journal BMC Oral Health (March 2023 - March 2024).
Research
Currently, I’m researching the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) for explaining and diminishing the predictive uncertainty in AI Oral Cancer diagnosis. Considering LLMs as post-hoc explainers and diagnostic aids. Working at Chandar Research Lab (CRL) and MadLabs McGill.
